Event Supplier Case Study: PSPAV

PSPAV

Making events more accessible has become a top priority for many event organisers. Many meetings and event organisers are investing in additional features to open their events to as wide an audience as possible.

For some events, accessibility is critical to their success, and they lean on their event suppliers to help them deliver this across their education programs. For PSPAV, AI was a good solution to deliver this; however, they required a language service partner to help them ensure the quality was worthy of this important audience.

Chris Malowany from PSPAV explains why TranslateAble was the perfect partner for this project:

“As an AV and production supplier to the event industry, we’re seeing more event organisers requesting additional accessibility features to ensure their events are as inclusive as possible.

This year, we had a particular event where, due to the nature of the industry and audience, there was an increased need to support delegates with auditory processing issues. Reduced lighting, quieter sound, and hearing loops were already on the list of requirements. However, we recommended to the event organiser that it would be wise to include open captions.

In our experience, captioning is brilliant for any audience. Captions help many attendees enjoy the content more, regardless of whether they have additional needs. While AI is a good tool to help deliver captioning at events, it requires an investment of time to improve its accuracy.

We partnered with TranslateAble to deliver this solution. It was a last-minute request with only a five day turnaround and after speaking to Julia Danmeri [CEO of TranslateAble], I was confident we had a partner who could provide these services and ensure a painless delivery.

Before the event, TranslateAble pre-loaded keywords, phrases, speaker and company names into the glossary to improve accuracy. Despite the fact that the service could have been delivered remotely, TranslateAble came onsite during build up and during event open to test everything was working correctly, going above and beyond what was required. Everything went very smoothly on the day.

We’ve worked with a number of language service agencies before, particularly during the pandemic when there were many requests for interpretation over virtual events. The TranslateAble team are very personable; you feel like you’re being looked after directly as opposed to through a service center. You feel like you and your event needs are being tended to rather than being just another customer.”
