From the biggest names in pop culture and exclusive previews of the latest in TV, film, and anime to vibrant cosplay competitions and gaming, MCM Comic Con is celebrated for its diverse event programming. Thanks to RX’s collaboration with TranslateAble, many of these must-see moments are also accessible to deaf attendees and those with hearing loss.
TranslateAble worked closely with RX to provide British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, with two supporting MCM Birmingham Comic Con and four at each MCM London Comic Con event in 2024.
Interpreters rotated between event stages, ensuring coverage for the most in-demand sessions. With the MCM Comic Con team providing event schedules in advance, TranslateAble was able to plan interpreter allocation and technical requirements effectively.
To make it easy for visitors, panels with BSL interpretation were clearly marked on the event app and displayed on schedules in front of each stage.
Annie Byrne, Content Manager, explains:
“At MCM Comic Con, our priority is fostering a safe, creative and inclusive space for everyone attending our portfolio of events. Accessibility has been a key focus of this commitment, and we’re always looking to improve our processes based on feedback from our fans.”
“For our stages in particular, it was important to our team to ensure all fans can fully enjoy and engage with panel content across the weekend. Our partnership with TranslateAble not only provides fans with the interpreting service they need, but also helps us continually refine and expand our approach to offer BSL support on an increasing number of panels and across more stages, ensuring that no fan is left out of the conversation.”
The partnership with RX on the delivery of this project was so successful, it was given the seal of approval from Hugh Jones, RX CEO himself!
